When asked about what the song was about in an Instagram comment, ROAR said “Lots of different things mashed together.” Throughout the song life is analogized into linguistic terms, with the ‘missteps’ of the singer’s life becoming like grammatical errors in a sentence. Considering later passages in the song, this also applies to the relationship described as ‘punctuated by some missteps’.
