Description
Cane River Creole NHP hosted the inaugural "Cane River Music Festival." The performers represented Louisiana's wide array of musical genres, including jazz, zydeco, blues, and Creole la-la.
Artists included The Hardrick Rivers Revue, Goldman Thibodeaux and the Lawtell Playboys, and Bobby Rush. Rush, a Louisiana native is a member of the Blues Hall of Fame.
The crowd picnicked and danced on the grounds of Oakland Plantation. Cane River Creole NHP's two plantations, Oakland and Magnolia, have hosted numerous performances and dance parties over the last two centuries. The park's inaugural festival helped to restore that long standing tradition.
The event was made possible by funding from the Lower Mississippi Valley Delta Initiative and the Cane River Heritage Area.
