Biography

Miss Angie is a Christian rock musician who released two albums on Myrrh Records: 100 Million Eyeballs (1997) and Triumphantine (1999). Her music blended aggressive rock and pop, described as "retro-eclectic," with vocals likened to Cyndi Lauper. This strong female rock star image, unusual in Christian music, was balanced by overtly Christian lyrics.

Miss Angie began her solo career performing praise and worship sets after Johnny Q. Public concerts. She started writing songs at 16, and while on tour, Oran Thornton encouraged her to pursue music as a career. These efforts led to a demo produced with David Zaffiro and a contract with Myrrh Records.

Her debut album, 100 Million Eyeballs (1997), takes its name from a creature in Revelation and Isaiah. Its lyrics are simple yet thought-provoking, often posing questions but ultimately functioning as praise music. Musically, it mixes modern rock with pop for a youthful feel, centered on "big guitars, heavy beats," and a "warm yet still girlish" voice. The album was produced by members of Johnny Q. Public, including Oran Thornton.

In 1999, she released her sophomore album, Triumphantine, featuring a shift in sound with less emphasis on guitar and a heavier use of keyboard synthesizers. She later signed with Transform Music Group and released four singles between 2011 and 2013 ("Kick Drum", "Time and Space", "Restore", and "Stay Afloat"), as well as an EP, The Casting Down of Demonic Angels (2013). In 2021, Miss Angie released the 7-track, 34-minute EP Desert Flags.

"Miss Angie" was a chosen stage name; knowing she was getting married, she opted for a neutral option. Her birth name is Angie Turner, sister of Johnny Q. Public guitarist Shawn Turner. The family had a background in Christian music ministry, and the siblings grew up traveling with their father's Christian rock bands, an experience she likened to "The Partridge Family."

Miss Angie's lyrics were influenced by artists known for "out-front praising Jesus and plainly talking about the Word". She cites Keith Green, Crystal Lewis, and Second Chapter of Acts (whose song "Which Way the Wind Blows" appears on her debut album) as influences. Despite a relatively short active period, Miss Angie has made an impact with her unique blend of rock and faith-based lyrics.
