Look, I am a Black Man who grew up in Newark. My seventh birthday was surrounded by the riots of 1967. I surrendered to the LORD in 1980. Within two to three years I could not get enough of this band. What drew me to this band? It was not the style, the rhythm or the sound. It was their lyrics, sometimes coming directly from the Scriptures. Then I started loving their music and sound - well not all of it, but mostly everything from "Washes Whiter Than" on to when they disappeared from so-called Christian radio. I am a Jazz/R&B/Funk stylist. I compose, play sax and play percussions. Obviously, most of this music will not fit into my performance genre. However, I am being revived by listening to their music for the past three days or so. Aside from BeBe and CeCe Winans and Take 6, this probably is as Guardian342 says it the best Christian band. Certainly within their style genre I cannot think of anyone who comes close to them in impact.

The new Petra song is not out of character. though the auto tune is a bit too much. This song fits right in with songs like "Love" More Power To Yea" and so on. Petra has never been much of one for power ballads (Kind of a shame). With the majority of christian radio stations being AC, in the past Petra used songs like "The Coloring Song" and "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" to help push their success in the christian market. They haven't had anything on the AC charts in a long time and they have been struggling to gain new fans and bookings in the US. Ironically when they perform this song live it is totally different from the studio recording and is a pretty heavy song. I know personally I l would love to hear some new hard rock materiel from them with the big vocals and keys. I loved seeing the Classic Petra tour. I haven't really been motivated to see the new line up lately because their set has't changed since 2010. Check out my artist profile http://www.last.fm/music/Matt+Norton

The new Petra song made me very sad. Yeah, whatever, it's a fine worship song. But it lacks the true "Petra sound". The music was poor, sounded processed, and it really depressed me at the end when they started using auto-tune... Please don't make an album with all your songs like that, PLEASE!

i purchased my first Petra album (yes cassette) in 1979 and have loved their music since then....the message is clear and uncompromised and the musical talent is as good as it gets....i got to do security for them around 1990 in vancouver canada and met them...they were all very nice and talked to us as we escorted them to the van after the concert...i will listen to their music till the day i die.

Well there's atleast a couple of bands of the name "Petra" here in last.fm. One of them is a finnish singer on her solo career from the band "Tiktak". I'm sure that's mixing up stuff in here that last.fm is so stupid it can't filter out bands with the same name..
