I find it odd that I never hear people talk about Alphaville when reminiscing on the 80s. They certainly weren't a little known indie band but at best, Forever Young might end up in a hits of the 1980s countdown...and that's about it. They have a bloody fantastic roster of songs, even their newer stuff had some top shelf tunes. If this is your first time listening to the band - give the whole Forever Young album a bunch of spins. For my money one of the most consistent, strong albums of the decade. Loaded statement, I know. If that goes down a treat, may I suggest trying their 2010 album Catching Rays on a Giant. Not on the level of the Forever Young album, but shows the group could still produce an extremely tuneful yet ever so slightly modernised take on the irresistible Euro-pop of their heyday all those years later.

Well here in Germany they certainly aren't forgotten. 3 top 5 hits in 1984: Big In Japan (#1), Sounds Like A Melody (#3) and Forever Young (#4). And they weren't only popular with teens. Also yeah the album Forever Young is amazing! Songs like Fallen Angel, Summer In Berlin and A Victory Of Love are easily up there with the 3 hit singles! All 10 songs are at least very good. Nowadays the only pop music I ever listen to anymore is from 1984 and late 1983, usually synthpop & new wave. Other than those I grew further & further away from the mainstream since 2005. But somehow I still remain obsessed with 1984 and late 1983 pop music, having many albums of artists similar to Alphaville like Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Fiction Factory, Real Life, Talk Talk, OMD, Ultravox, Nena, Cyndi Lauper, Tears For Fears, Blancmange, Duran Duran, Wang Chung, Paul Young, Eurythmics, Thompson Twins, A Flock Of Seagulls & many more. From 1985 on pop music starts to get less & less interesting to me.

That’s very good to hear they’re appreciated in their home country for more than one song. For context, I’m Australian. We have many domestically loved bands here that probably few folk overseas have even heard of, Cold Chisel being one example. Fallen Angel is actually my favourite Alphaville song, it always blew my mind more people weren’t gushing over it like I was. But yes, I completely agree with your assessment of the band. Thank you for giving me another perspective.

True. The Breathtaking Blue is, for example, a breathtaking album with few minor weak spots.

"Next Generation" is a tremendous gem that should've made it on "Afternoons In Utopia"

Не думал, что у них такая огромная дискография. Помимо альбомов в компиляции много всего нового услышал. Из нового весьма понравились "Here By Your Side" и "In Bubblegum" - очень интересные песни. Forever Young я конечно ещё в детстве услышал. Крутая была, да и сейчас слушается очень здорово. Но в те времена выдумывал всякое под неё. А вот Big in Japan никогда не нравилась. Ничего такого в ней нет. Monkey in the Moon вспомнилась, когда слушал. Совсем позабыл про эту песню. Вообще годно конечно, проникся некоторыми ностальгическими воспоминаниями.

Almost exactly my order: Forever Young > Afternoons In Utopia > The Breathtaking Blue > Salvation > Catching Rays On Giant > Prostitute > Strange Attractor. Why you don't like Breathtaking Blue? I love She Fades Away, Summer Rain, Heaven Or Hell, For A Million.

Apesar do Alphaville, Ter Muita Coisa, Boa, Grande Parte do Público, Só Vai Se Ligar em Big Japan, Sounds Like a Melody e Forever Young, do Estrondoso Sucesso do Álbum de 1984, Eu Gostei Muito de Dance With Me (Empire Remix), Tive o Prazer de Comprar O SINGLE, E Curti Muito o Álbum de 1989, The Breathtaking Blue, Não Cheguei a Conhecer Na Época o Álbum de 1986, Afternoons In Utopia, Que Mais Tarde Me Encantaria Com: Jerusalem, Lassie Come Hom e Red Rose. Depois de Muito Tempo Conheci O Álbum de 1997, Salvation,O Disco To é Muito Bom, O Destaque Nele Que Curti: Guardian Angel, Wishful Thinking. e Nos Dias Atuais Tem Várias Coisas do Alphaville e Recomendo A Que Firmou-se em: Big Japan, Sounds Like a Melody e Forever Young, Que Explorem Mais A Banda, Pois Tenho Certeza Que Vão Adorar!
