A bit uneven, but the highlights (the title track, "Hurt," "Bridge Over Troubled Water") are stunning.

A bit too long. They could have trimmed some of the lesser songs and kept it in standard LP length. Still, good stuff.

wow-people hating on the covers? Listen to Sting's original version of "I Hung My Head" then tell me he didn't turn a mediocre song into a great one. I can understand the NIN or Depeche Mode fans getting upset because suddenly the "mainstream" is into a song you always loved, but to say all his covers suck? c'mon-get some perspective.

i think johnny cash's rendition of HURT has its own atmosphere entirely. from a man nearing the end of life looking back on his life and the paths he went down. its outstanding, and thats why so many people believe he wrote it, because it's entirely an outstanding experience listening to it. the vocal, and the video of course is so emotional.

I'd say his own material is acceptable, but come on people. His covers are worthless! Let's take personal Jesus as an example. The extremely well performed atmosphere being present in Depeche Mode's version is completely gone and replaced with something I find to be insulting. And Hurt. Same goes here: the atmosphere is gone and he even changed the lyrics at a vital part, which is completely unacceptable. In my opinion, Johnny Cash is a master when it comes to turning excellent original songs into something disturbing and really really bad. Can't believe so many people actually admire his so called talent. If he's doing his own material, well then I understand. But praising his covers? Jesus fucking Christ, get a grip.
